Kayaking and Beaching

For summer break, I went on a lot of adventures, such as vertical caving, rock climbing, kayaking, and sailing. It was a great end to my time in Korea.

This is Namhae, which I have always loved, you can see it in the spring here. Mike, Eoin, and I went back there to go kayaking in the ocean. The area is around these smaller islands, and you can watch the waves crash into their rocky shores... it was really beautiful, especially for someone like me, who love rocks. I didn't bring my camera into the boat, though so these are all taken from shore.

For more info, check out their super helpful site! dumotown.com or call 010-8500-5863

We went to Busan's Gwangalli beach, which was unsurprisingly crowded. Korean beaches in August are really packed, but it was nice to lay out (under an umbrella, per Korean culture).

The last day of break we went sailing with Pat. I wish I had taken some pictures of that adventure, but let me just say it is awesome. If you want to rent a dinghy to sail (one or two people boats), go to Dadaepo beach and walk over to the very far left. It cost us 20,000 for three hours, including life vests and wet suits. They did not offer to help set it up at all, though, so make sure you know what you're doing!

Namhae

Mike and I took a daytrip to beautiful Namhae a few weeks ago. There are regular buses running from Jinju to Namhae. Once there we grabbed a cab and headed towards the coast, stopping our driver to let us off near the water.

These really reminded me of the women in Tongyeong.

American Village!

America's ambassador, Mickey Mouse.

The Statue of Liberty and houses with more western style architecture.

Five minutes of hiking, fifteen minutes of walking up a paved road led us to...

A little temple!

I love the cherry blossoms in season all over Korea.

I love that many temples in Korea are actually occupied by residents.

Vietnam - Vung Tau

I couldn't leave Vietnam without spending the day at a beautiful beach. Lots of tour companies touted popular beaches around southern Vietnam, but I wanted something different. Vung Tau was mentioned around the tour websites as less crowded and clean, so that is where we went.

Vung Tau is easy to get to - simply go to the hydrofoil station on the Saigon River and buy a ticket. There are a handful of companies with plenty of boats leaving throughout the day. Although we went for a day trip, there were plenty of hotels and resorts in Vung Tau for overnight visits.

We were dropped off by the port, so we had the chance to walk around and look at the fishing village nearby.

This photo was taken by Rob, who went with me on the trip.

One of the most beautiful parts of the beach was the mirror-like surface on the wet sand, reflecting the sky and creating an endless stream.

Lots of vendors wandered down the beach, trying to sell everything from fruits to seafood.

Getting back to the station in Vung Tau was easy- we paid a few bucks to a guy on a moped who had us there, safe and sound, in minutes.
